I’ve begun a year long project called Year of the Aardvark. The name is immaterial. The project is all about getting out and shooting every single day. Can I make through the whole year? I’m not sure, but that’s the goal. The whole point is to get behind the camera and shoot more than I currently do.
The hard part is coming up with 365 things to shoot—or rather, 365 accesible things to shoot, one each day. Yesterday I had a minor freak out when the plan for the day started to come off the rails. I finally got a shot that I was happy with, but I’m already a little worried that I’ll have trouble coming up with compelling images each day. There will be duplicate subjects… for instance, I expect Glue to make many appearances over the course of the year. There will also likely be a fair number of self portraits, too.
I’ve started a list of ideas and I’ve been surfing this afternoon looking for places and things to do. Field trips are great for the weekend days, but during the week when work takes up all of my day, things will be tougher.
PhotoChallenge.org is promoting the same sort of project, and is providing themes for each day. I’ll be following their progress and will likely use some of their theme suggestions when I get stuck.
